The Adventures of the Navan Wiley Investigators

Members of the Navan WI in front of the White Lake Women’s Institute Building

Hoping to be part of a provincial wide FWIO scavenger hunt, four friends from the Navan WI headed out on Family Day to search for a WI building. This one was found in White Lake Ontario. What started as a hunt for a building turned into a really fun day for friendship and discovery. One of our members, Karen, suggested the White Lake building. She was familiar with the site since it is very close to where her sister lives and her parents retired; so she had many great memories of White Lake. Another of our newest members, Lorraine, had fond thoughts and remembrances of growing up and visiting her great uncle at his cottage on White Lake.

So we set off, four musketeers, Linda our esteemed leader, Karen our driver, Jill our map person and Lorraine wondering what she had gotten herself into. It was quite the adventure into the woodlands. As the countryside sped by us, we shared stories, childhood memories, compared houses/cottages, laughed, and were generally quite amazed at the housing developments. In White Lake, we found the WI building and trudged in the snow to take a few pictures. The photo session complete, we piled into our ride and sped off to the Red Neck Bistro in Calabogie for lunch. Surrounded by snowmobilers and their families who also had stopped off for a quick lunch, we enjoyed some delicious food.

It was a truly fun day and an example of how WI friends can come together and just enjoy what comes along.

By the way, we were too late to register for the Scavenger Hunt so we will have to watch another group of our members as they participate in the hunt. Over to you, Sheila, for more!!
