“Together build a creation using LEGO that demonstrates what the WE means to your team. April 2022
While envisioning a LEGO project for this month’s challenge, we did some brainstorming and a little research at one member’s house in Navan, Ontario. From the FWIO website, we were reminded of the following:
“We believe that when women come together they can change their communities and the world they live in. The FWIO provides members with a stronger voice by working together as a united group. We focus on personal growth opportunities, advocacy, health and community wellness projects.
When reflecting on our own Navan Women’s Institute, we recalled ROSE programs, the Tweedsmuir archives, local projects and initiatives as well as world projects. Our community is stronger for the volunteer efforts of several service groups, including the WI. We reflected that
when we worked together we were building a community, not the least of which is a community of friends. Hence the title of our LEGO creation: “Building community – 1 Piece at a Time”
Building with LEGO was a new experience for one member, a career reminder of how LEGO was used successfully to inspire children with learning needs for another, a treasured reminder of building with grandchildren for another. So, for ‘Home and Country’, our LEGO build includes:
- A baby bottle representing our founder’s goal to educate women about safe milk storage
- A home with open door representing welcome
- A Canadian flag to represent country
- A public park with a WI donated bench and gardens
- A circle of WI friends who build a strong community together
We had the most fun piecing together WI representatives of women from all walks of life!
