Navan WI Giving Back to the Community Again
The ladies of the Navan WI were busy elves this pre-holiday season, preparing more than 600 Christmas cards as well as baskets full of chocolates and candies for the residents and staff of 7 area senior residences. In November, 11 of our members signed cards with Christmas greetings. Here are 4 of our members enjoying putting the final touches to the baskets and cards, which will be delivered in December. Merry Christmas to all.
One of our members is holding one of the cards painted and donated by Doreen Hardiman, a long-standing member of WI and a famous local artist. These cards were sent to many of our partners and supporters who have contributed to our activities over the past year.
Well, our very successful Christmas card program for area senior complexes is almost over.
These pictures show Joan, Eve, Erin and myself putting the finishing touches to the baskets of candies and chocolates and the cards which were signed by many of you.
A huge thank you to Joan and Eve, without whose help this project would not have been possible. It was a big task but well worth it. The final steps are that Eve and Joan will be delivering the packages to Sarsfield Colonial Home, Promenade (bottom of 10th Line), Portobello Residence, Symphony Seniors, Chapel Hill Residence and Cumberland Lodge. The 3 of us will also be going to Queenswood Villa to make a presentation on our WI and present the baskets and cards to the residents there.
Collectively, with the help of so many of you, we signed cards for over 600 residents and staff of the retirement homes, as well as putting together 7 baskets of candies and chocolates. We also mailed over 20 personalized thank you Christmas cards to our various individual, corporate and association supporters. Thanks to Doreen for the donation of painted cards for that purpose.
Joan (and her grandson) took some great pictures and I will be giving Pam Lafrance a hard copy for the Tweedsmuir Book. Keep an eye out on our appealing website for more news. Make sure you refer your families and friends to this website.
So, thanks again to all and I look forward to doing this together next year – one good afternoon or evening of signing the cards would do it, for sure.
Linda
I think it is so great what your group accomplished! Many of us helped by completing cards, but your committee organized and coordinated everything. Without your organizational skills and hard work, the project wouldn’t have come together.
So much of what you did had to be that way because of Covid…hopefully next year, as Linda says, we can gather at someone’s home and do it altogether one afternoon.
Congratulations on a job well done and thank you!
Jill
We’ll done card committee!
Having spent many hours at nursing/retirement homes, I know how much your cards, and especially the treats will be appreciated.
